The 26th Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Award

The search is on for individuals who have devoted a significant part of their lives to selfless humanitarian service as the AY Foundation, Inc. (AYF) and the JCI Manila formally open the 26th Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Awards.

The award commemorates the legacy of the late Blessed Teresa, who was known worldwide as “The Living Saint” before her death in 1997.  Her tireless dedication to serve the “poorest of the poor” is the constant inspiration for AYF, the philanthropic arm of the Yuchengco Group of Companies (YGC), to hold the annual project in partnership with JCI Manila.

To qualify, a candidate must be a living individual who has dedicated at least 25 years of his life to humanitarian work among the poor, the orphans, the dying, the handicapped, the unwanted, the oppressed, the aged, and other less privileged Filipinos.  In addition, he must also possess unquestionable integrity and simplicity of lifestyle following the example of the late Blessed Teresa.

By recognizing individuals who have taken on the same cause as Blessed Teresa’s, the project also hopes to encourage more people to follow their example and serve as an inspiration to many.

Thirty (30) noble men and women have already been recognized for their extraordinary commitment to this cause since the award was instituted by AYF and JCI Manila in 1983.

As in the previous years, the awarded individual will receive P1 million in cash, half of which will be donated to a charitable institution of his choice.

Nominations are now open and may be made by any individual, institution, or organization.  Nomination forms (please see attached) are to be mailed or submitted to the Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Award Committee at the JCI Philippines, Manila Clubhouse, Arquiza corner Grey Streets, Ermita, Manila; with telephone numbers 525-2631 / 525-6814 / 525-6792.

Deadline for the submission of entries is on 30 June 2013.
